Michael Francis Smith
Mike practiced at McChesney & Dale from 2002 to 2005, and rejoined the firm in 2009. He maintains a general practice with an emphasis on immigration, employee benefits, and ERISA litigation.
Prior to rejoining McChesney & Dale, Mike was employed at firms in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Washington, D.C., where he represented a broad range of corporate, nonprofit, and individual clients on immigration and employment matters. Mike is experienced in establishing corporate visa programs, obtaining employment-authorized nonimmigrant status for executive, managerial, professional, and religious personnel, securing U.S. permanent residence and citizenship status, family-based immigration, and other immigration matters. He is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
Mike is active in the firm's employee benefits practice, and is experienced in helping individuals and organizations with issues relating to pensions, disability benefits, and health insurance.
Mike is an alumnus of the U.S. Department of Justice Honors Program, and has worked within the U.S. Department of Justice at both the Board of Immigration Appeals and the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer. He holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from St. Mary's College of Maryland. Mike served as an Articles Editor for the American Bar Association journal, The Business Lawyer . He is admitted to practice before the state and federal courts in the District of Columbia and Maryland, and has represented clients throughout the United States before U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services, the U.S. Department of State, and the U.S. Department of Labor.
